I Purpose

Conducts daily purchasing, pricing and business analytics activities for assigned categories, which may include raw material and/or finished goods (FNG). Primary responsibilities are the execution of purchasing activity, inventory planning, supplier management and pricing management to meet service, quality, productivity, revenue and profitability goals.

II Duties

  • Fulfill the raw material and/or FNG requirements of the business through inventory planning and purchasing processes
  • Coordinate with Manufacturing, Sales/Marketing, Customer Service, and/or Logistics regarding special circumstance orders and/or expedites
  • Find and manage qualification of new sources to support new products
  • Conduct basic vendor part management procedures (part setup/changes, price table maintenance, vendor setup/maintenance, etc.)
  • Analyze daily purchase order backlog reports for accuracy, trends, reorder points
  • Develop and implement Sourcing strategy for assigned spend categories
  • Negotiate pricing and contract terms for assigned suppliers
  • Track market indexes that represent the main cost drivers for assigned categories
  • Prepare and analyze monthly inventory and purchase variance reports
  • Issue and track supplier non-conformances and cost recovery
  • Support Sourcing Manager as directed


  • Prepares price quotations from data contained in computer cost/price system, applies appropriate margin from marketing managers and releases to sales representatives
  • Conducts Pricing Audits per SOP
  • Supports Rebate creation, maintenance and tracker reporting
  • Maintains and updates Price Books for assigned categories
  • Maintains pricing system files with materials cost updates, machine rate changes and tracks these changes for historical review
  • Works as primary point of contact for major bid submissions when inter-divisional work is required
  • Supports the maintenance of contract pricing, providing updated pricing during windows for price adjustments
  • Consults with appropriate Marketing Manager on pricing issues that are not standard operating procedures
    relative to the contract
  • Participates in contract progress meetings, providing factual information to sales, marketing and R&D representatives
  • Supports any activities related to Sales Reporting, Forecasting, Profit Analysis, maintenance of ERP systems
  • Actively pursues opportunities to improve departmental process and procedures and remove waste

III Knowledge

1. Competencies

  • Minimum 2 years work experience, with at least 1 year in a purchasing role
  • Functional knowledge of material requirements planning
  • Demonstrated understanding of purchase order process and 3-way matching
  • Prefer experience with request for quote (RFQ) process and competitive bidding
  • Ability to manage multiple projects
  • Strong MS Excel skills, and working MS Powerpoint and MS Word skills

1. Internal

  • Daily contact with supply chain, accounts payable, procurement management.
  • Frequent contact with R&D
  • Daily attendance at divisional operations meetings to review plant scheduling

2. External

  • Daily contact with suppliers’ customer service, outside warehouses and transportation suppliers
  • Moderate contact with suppliers’ sales representatives and accounts receivable staff

V Essential Physical Requirements

  • Most working hours are spent in an office environment although visits to the customer’s location and other Mactac facilities may be necessary on an as-needed basis. The physical requirements are representative of the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodations. An employee in this position requires considerable manual dexterity for use of the computer keyboard and mouse.
